Good afternoon Freshmen parents and guardians,
By now you have seen your child’s Spring 2021 programs on Talos (and if you have not, please ensure
you toggle to TERM 2 in the upper right corner of your Talos account). You may have also seen that there are no real options for program change requests for adding courses for them. I have received many inquiries so I thought it may be good to send out some
helpful information and reminders.
- Freshmen schedules have been rolled over into the Spring Term for the most part
- Stuyvesant has not historically offered ’teacher swaps and trades’ unless there are extraordinary circumstances. If you have a particular issue/circumstance that
warrants this, it must be approved by the Department Assistant Principal and should be brought up by the student if at all possible. In most cases, this would have been discussed at the counselor level or documented at this point in time.
- Freshman take one semester of Art Appreciation or Music Appreciation during 9th grade.
- If the student is enrolled in one of the performing ensembles (chorus, band, orchestra), they take the one-semester Art requirement; not the music)
- Math Team is offered by recommendation and currently full
- Normally there would be a selection for Physical Education (to select swim gym) or students would be tested, and those who did not test out would be programmed for
one semester of swim gym during either freshman or sophomore year. We cannot do this during COVID and remotely. You will not see a PE selection.
- The only selections you will see for Freshmen are moving courses, if there is space; not adding courses and electives. Opportunities will increase in grades 10-12
and were impacted by the reduction in elective offerings in our remote setting as well.
I hope this helps!
Best,
Dina
