Dear parents and guardians of grade 9 students,
Welcome back
to another school year! We are very excited to have students back in person, but also understand that with this return to schools and all that we have learned from remote learning; that students need support for their mental and emotional learning more than
ever. We have chosen to partner with My Robin, a group that follows a pedagogical approach that elevates traditional SEL (Social Emotional Learning) practice by teaching evidenced-based skills through an engaging coach/practice model to help students handle
real-life challenges. All of their programs center around one of the five pillars of SEL: Self, Connection, Purpose, Resilience and Choices.
Our physical
education teachers who have been sharing short 2-3 minute videos with 9th graders to review at home to introduce them to the My Robin team. To support those lessons we invite all 9th graders to the Stuyvesant theater on select dates to hear from My Robin
coaches in person. There will also be games and prizes for students based on their participation. These sessions will also serve as a way for students to meet fellow freshmen from other classes and participate in activities in an informal setting.
We strongly
encourage 9th graders to attend these sessions, and place reminders in their calendars for the sessions that particularly interest them. All 9th graders are welcome to attend any of these sessions and we look forward to seeing them soon!
