PSAT/NMSQT Update

September 20, 2024 Dear Students and families, Stuyvesant High School will administer the school day PSAT/NMSQT to sophomores (Grade 10) on either Tuesday, October 1, 2024, or Wednesday, October 2, 2024. Approximately half of the sophomore class will be scheduled for each testing date. Please note, we cannot accept requests for testing date preferences. You will be notified of the date you are assigned and your room assignment on or before September 27, 2024. Please see the key information below: * School day PSAT/NMSQT is free for all sophomores (Grade 10) * PSAT/NMSQT is in digital format and devices will be provided by Stuyvesant (Note: Personal devices will not be allowed for the school day PSAT/NMSQT) * Registration for the exam is not required with the College Board or Stuyvesant * Prior notification is not required if a student does not wish to take the PSAT/NMSQT * Test room assignments and other testing details including reporting time will be sent on or before Friday, September 27, 2024. * A special schedule following the exam will be followed for students in ALL grades. Additionally, the school is providing you with a PSAT prep software to support your preparation. PrepScholar provides self-paced adaptive test prep focused on more than 100 skill lessons and 7,100+ practice questions with explanations. You should have received to your @nycstudents.net account, an email on Tuesday, September 10, from PrepScholar<https://www.prepscholar.com/psat-test-prep/> to your @nycstudents.net account with directions on how to login to the platform. If you have questions, students may stop in room 209 and speak to Ms. Fanelli or families may email Ms. Ingram at ringram3(a)schools.nyc.gov<mailto:ringram3@schools.nyc.gov>, and we will follow up accordingly. Any sophomore who chooses not to sit for the in-school PSAT/NMSQT will follow the abbreviated school day schedule that all non-test takers will follow on the October 1 or October 2, test dates. Period attendance will be taken during the abbreviated school day schedule. Test-taking sophomores (Grade 10) only are to arrive at Stuyvesant High School and be in their assigned test room no later than 8:15 am (Breakfast will be available starting at 7:30 am). Those who sit for the exam may either leave the building for lunch or have lunch in the cafeteria from 12:00 pm to 12:50 pm. PSAT/NMSQT Day Schedule for Test Takers: Schedule Activity 7:30 am - 8:00 am Optional breakfast in student cafeteria available for test-taking sophomores (Grade 10) 8:15 am - 9:00 am Test-taking sophomore (Grade 10) report to assigned rooms, sign in, and complete the PSAT/NMSQT Pre-administration 9:00 am - 12:00 pm Digital PSAT/NMSQT Exam Administration 12:00 pm - 12:50 pm Test-taking sophomores (Grade 10) may have lunch in the cafeteria or exit the building 12:54 pm - 2:50 pm Special school schedule for all students (Grade 9, 10, 11, and 12) Please note, 9th, 11th, and 12th graders do not report to school in the morning. This also includes sophomores (Grade 10) who choose not to take the PSAT/NMSQT exam. They are to arrive at Stuyvesant High School at the start of their first period on the special schedule that will be provided soon. Dear Stuyvesant Families, Our top priority every day is to ensure the safety and security of every student and staff member in our school. We have been notified there is a possible Global Climate Strike scheduled for Friday, September 20, 2024, in which Stuyvesant students may decide to participate. Students who choose to participate in the strike must scan out of the school building. Following our attendance policy, students will be marked absent in the classes they miss and are responsible for any missed work as a result of the absence. On behalf of the Parent’s Association: The Fall Election for the 2024/25 academic year will be conducted online during the PA General Meeting on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. We hope you had a rejuvenating summer break and are excited about the new possibilities awaiting our young people. Please make sure to carefully read the following important reminders and To Do’s in preparation for school. All students will begin school at 8:30 am on Thursday (9/5). Night Before - Be sure to complete the following tasks the night before school * Check Talos for your schedule, room assignments and teacher names (if possible, bring a print out with you on the first day of school). Students should follow all safety guidelines including using sanitation wipes to clean their area of the table and chair before and after eating. Students who prefer to not eat lunch from the Cafeteria are allowed to leave the building during their lunch period (and free period). Please note, students must scan out when they leave and scan back in when they return. * Students will be permitted to leave the building during lunch. They may also leave during free periods after programs are finalized. Lunch may be eaten in the 5th floor cafeteria or outside the building. Students may also take grab-and-go lunches in the cafeteria and exit the building. Students who exit the building during their lunch or free periods may only re-enter the building 10 minutes prior to the next period’s beginning bell.
