Dear Stuyvesant Community, This is a notification that two (2) individual COVID cases were reported today, September 15, 2022. Notice was sent to all directly impacted families/staff members. This letter will be sent only as necessary, not for each individual case when there is one or more positive cases reported in the building. Stay well, Stuyvesant High School 9/15/2022 Dear Stuyvesant High School at 345 CHAMBERS STREET community, I am writing to notify you that a member or members of our school community have tested positive for COVID-19 and may have exposed others while at school. Below you will find guidance on next steps that will help keep our school community healthy and safe. The information below reflects the expertise of the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), Test & Trace Corp (T2), and the New York City Department of Education (DOE). Note: DOHMH has issued new guidance due to the current transmission level of COVID. All people, regardless of vaccination status are strongly encouraged to wear masks at all times when indoors in a public setting. What Happens Now? • In 3K, Pre-K and K-12 classrooms, students and staff who shared classroom space with the individual who tested positive will receive at-home tests with guidance and directions. All may continue to attend school as long as they test negative for COVID and have no COVID like symptoms. • The Situation Room will monitor our school for any further interventions. • Anyone with a positive COVID-19 test will not return to the school until they are no longer infectious. • As a reminder, regardless of age, students who are fully vaccinated do not need to quarantine when they are exposed to COVID-19, unless they have symptoms. • If your child is feeling sick, keep them at home. • If your child is under 2 years old in a LYFE classroom, they must quarantine for at least 8 days since their last exposure. In order to test to return to school on Day 8, your child must be asymptomatic, and have a negative lab-based test taken on Day 5. Children that do not get tested can return after quarantining for 10 days. Note: home test kits are not considered valid for children under 2 years old, unless administered by a health care provider. • Students that have had, and recovered from, COVID within the last 90 days do not need to quarantine. How do we stay healthy? We strongly encourage the COVID-19 vaccination for all age-eligible students. Find a vaccine site today at https://vaccinefinder.nyc.gov/. There is no cost to be vaccinated. Vaccine booster shots are now available for all fully vaccinated New Yorkers 5 years and older. These shots boost your immunity from an initial vaccination series. A booster shot is recommended for any adult who received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine at least five months ago, the second dose of the Moderna vaccine at least six months ago, or the one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least two months ago. Please remember to follow these important actions to prevent COVID-19 transmission: 1. Stay home if sick (except to get essential medical care, including COVID-19 testing). 2. Wear a face covering if you are symptomatic or exposed to reduce the spread of COVID-19. 3. Practice healthy hand hygiene: Wash your hands often or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer; avoid touching your face; and cover your cough or sneeze with your arm, not your hands. Good morning! Please read the letter below carefully in anticipation for the first day of school on Thursday, September 8. Looking forward to welcoming you back to school! Best, Ms. Ingram September 6, 2022 Dear Stuyvesant Families, We are thrilled to welcome our students back on Thursday September 8, 2022, for the first day of the 2022-2023 school year. We hope you had a rejuvenating summer break and are excited about the new possibilities awaiting our young people. I am so optimistic about the year ahead as we continue to take positive steps forward from these past two years. Our priority for this new school year is to build on and cultivate meaningful experiences so every student at Stuyvesant is acknowledged for who they are and recognized for who they are becoming. Life-learning experiences inside and outside of our classrooms and the transformational interactions with caring adults and like-minded peers are powerful influencers on the trajectories our young adults embark on during their high school journey. The past two years highlighted students’ desire to feel they truly matter in all of the spaces they occupy. We have a responsibility as a community to build their confidence, their intellect, and their skill sets to take on both the opportunities and challenges they will encounter at Stuyvesant and beyond. I am excited to work with you towards this goal to position our young adults to be the best version of themselves this school year. Please make sure to carefully read the following important reminders and To Do’s in preparation for school. All students will begin school at 8:30am on Thursday (9/8) and Friday (9/9). Plan and dress accordingly by wearing layers. (i.e. wear a light layer but have a sweater/sweatshirt available). Upon Arrival - School doors will open at 7:45am * Daily health screener is no longer required to enter the building for students and staff (NOTE: If you feel sick, you should stay home). * COVID testing will be available using take-home test kits. Each student will receive four COVID test kits per month. Students should follow all safety guidelines including using sanitation wipes to clean their area of the table and chair before and after eating. Students who prefer to not eat lunch from the Cafeteria are allowed to leave the building during their lunch period (and free period). Please note, students must scan out when they leave and scan back in when they return. * Students will be permitted to leave the building during lunch and free periods. Lunch may be eaten in the 5th floor cafeteria or outside the building. Students may take grab-and-go lunches to exit the building. Students who exit the building during their lunch or free periods may only re-enter the building 10 minutes prior to the next period’s beginning bell. Fall 2022 Program Change Requests Open Today for grades 10-12

September 2, 2022 Dear Students, Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! Schedules for sophomores, juniors and seniors will be available on Talos by 5:00 pm EST tonight. We want to start classes beginning on September 8, 2022, and build the important teacher-student and student-student relationships needed for a successful class. Students are currently scheduled with a preliminary program (schedule) to meet graduation and Stuyvesant endorsement requirements. However, students will have the opportunity to request ONE program change submission. Therefore, the program change request process will occur PRIOR to the start of the first day of school and through Talos<https://talos.stuy.edu/auth/login/?next=/users/students>, the portal to submit a program change request. Please keep in mind an approved program change request submission does not guarantee the request will result in a changed program. The request submission is a request only and dependent on many factors including but limited to graduation and Stuy endorsement requirements, AP limits and prerequisites, seat availability, and mandated instructional periods and courses/labs. Be sure to review this entire message (and the FAQ<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1W5325KV1V-sYaJ6p6N_oUn-HAoM-Uz8ihajL2pc…>) as we provide more information for what qualifies as one program change request submission along with how and when to submit a program change request. Please note, program change requests on the basis of the following reasons will be denied: * Teacher preference * Period preference. Examples include, but are not limited to: * Travel distance from home * Requests to arrive late/leave early * Changes to lunch period * Undocumented health issues * Classroom location * Requests to reverse previously requested program change Your Fall 2022 schedule is now available on Talos<https://talos.stuy.edu/auth/login/?next=/users/students>. The program change request through Talos will be open starting with our upperclassmen and following the timeframe below: Start Date and Time Class/Grade Start Date and Time Seniors Friday, September 2, 2022 starting at 6:00 pm EST Juniors Friday, September 2, 2022 starting at 9:00 pm EST Sophomores Saturday, September 3, 2022 starting at 11:00 am EST Freshmen Thursday, September 8, 2022 (physical programs in Homeroom) End Date and Time Class/Grade End Date and Time Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 5:00pm EST Freshmen (See your School Counselor for errors only) ***IMPORTANT: The deadline for all students to submit a program change request through Talos is Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 5:00pm EST for all grades. Important Directions and Guidelines (Please Read Thoroughly): * A program change request submission must be accompanied with a justification for the request (a request without justification will be denied). Your justification allows for School Counselors and/or Department Chairs/Assistant Principals to easily identify the purpose of your request, which will inform their decision in either approving or denying the request, or perhaps devising an alternative. The highest priority for a program change request will be given to meeting NYSED graduation requirements and the Stuyvesant endorsement. * YOU WILL BE LIMITED TO ONLY ONE PROGRAM CHANGE REQUEST. In your one program change request submission, you may need to drop multiple classes and/or add multiple classes. Please be aware that the more actions you are requesting on your ONE request, the less likely it will get approved or even processed because of multiple waitlists and potential conflicts (please see FAQs). * Counselors and Department Chairs/Assistant Principals have the option in Talos to leave messages for you upon approving or denying a request. * Since program change requests are to be exclusively handled through Talos, and messages are being posted and reviewed through Talos; extraneous emails will slow down the process of program changes--do not email the Department Chairs, school counselors, or Program Office with program change requests. Therefore, upon submitting a request, please wait patiently until the request has been handled. **(Please note that teachers and counselors do not officially start until Tuesday, September 6, 2022) Follow the directions below to submit a program change request: 1. Click on the “Program Management Portal” 2. Click “Create Change” located on the right 3. Click the corresponding “Drop” button to drop a course 4. Find the requested course in the search area in the lower left and then click, “Add Course” to your schedule. Talos will prevent you from submitting an impossible schedule through red warning dialogues after clicking “Add Course” Upon generating the request, Talos will notify the appropriate Guidance Counselor and Department Chair/Assistant Principal for review and approval/denial.
