Dear Stuyvesant Families,

Yesterday, there were reports of gun violence near schools located in Upper Manhattan. We have been monitoring these incidents and maintaining regular contact with the 1st Precinct, our School Safety Agents, and the NYCDOE Borough Safety Director. Based on the reports, it appears the incidences were not directed at the schools and were potentially gang-related or robbery motivated. While we believe these specific incidents will not impact our school, we do want to remain vigilant in case of any emergencies that could arise in the local vicinity.

I want to share that Assistant Principal Moran and I are having weekly meetings with the NYPD Commanding Officer of the 1st Precinct. These weekly meetings between the NYCDOE and NYPD is a priority established by the Mayor to combat youth violence. We have a strong relationship with the 1st Precinct youth officers and continue to request NYPD presence in the local area particularly during arrival and dismissal times. Additionally, we are working closely with the School Safety Agents, Deans, and Safety Committee to support efforts in maintaining the overall security and safety of the school. We want to share the General Response Protocols with you, so you are aware of the emergency procedures we follow and to discuss with your child.

Thank you again for working together in reviewing and following emergency protocols, sharing your concerns, and supporting our students and staff in keeping our school as safe as possible.

Sincerely,

Seung C. Yu, Ed.D
