Dear Stuyvesant Families,

Our top priority every day is to ensure the safety of every student and staff member in our school. We work in concert with our entire staff including our Building Response Team (BRT) and Safety Agents. We communicate regularly with our local precinct, and the NYPD actively monitors social media sites for threats particularly as we are seeing increased news coverage of social media posts promoting violence.

At this time, we have received communication that there are no specific threats against schools; and therefore, we are expecting a regular school day on Friday and will follow our normal procedures. Additionally, we will administer the PSAT/NMSQT for our Juniors (Grade 11) on Saturday, October 14, as originally scheduled. However, as a precaution, we have requested additional police presence for tomorrow and Saturday.

If there are any changes to our regular school day or for the PSAT/NMSQT, we will update you immediately. Finally, we want to remind you to continue to be alert of your surroundings to and from school, adhere to NYPD guidance: If you see something, say something. Immediately call 911; and maintain situational awareness.

We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment for our students at all times. Additional resources supporting thoughtful instruction and students’ mental health in the face of disturbing current events can be found at schools.nyc.gov/currentevents.

Let’s continue to lean on one another and engage in open dialogue to navigate through these challenging times.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Dina Ingram at RIngram3@schools.nyc.gov.

Sincerely,
